This is the price list for the things that were sold at the home stay. If you want to save, better buy whatever drinks or junk food that you want in Miri before you fly to here.
.
Obseve the house rules also. The house is using generator to supply us the electricty.
.
These are the food and drinks that you can buy in this home stay.
.
Our sleeping room.
.
Simple but not lonely, we have many uninvited flying friends came to visit us during night time.
.
Living hall is big !
.
7.35am, we are having our home cooked breakfast.
.
See what is on our menu….. fried bee hoon or rice noodle, bread, coffee and tea.
.
Although simple but as a local, I guess we can survive with such a simple breakfast !
.
After our breakfast, we rested for a while. About 8.30am, we walked to the Mulu Park to meet our mountain guide. Since we found information about how tough was the trail to summit. We were trying to reduce the backpack weight by carrying only things that we need for our 3 nights mission.
.
The park has a very strict rubbish rule and I raise my hands and legs to support it !
Whatever you bring in, you have to declare and all would be checked by a staff, I mean 100% check ! We also have to pay for a rubbish deposit of RM200, just in case we do not bring those rubbish out but unlikely our deposit would be forfeited, wise man knows why !
Remember I wrote it before…… when you go into the jungle, leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photos !
.
Don’t believe ? See how serious the staff is writing down all in a list.
.
Remember, you must have a license guide to bring you into the park. Check with the park office if you are not sure whether your guide is licensed or not.
.
Let’s have a group photo at the Helipad here. Time now is 9.16am.
.
Introducing our “Ular Sawa” or “Python Snake” guide, Mr Silvester
.
OK, guys, let’s move on.
.
20 minutes later, at 9.16am, we already reached the entrance to Summit trail.
.
Our jungle expert, who has lots of experience in jungle and definately know how to survive in jungle !
Don’t leave home without him !
.
Just the beginning …….
.
8 minutes later, I saw this.
.
10.01am, 25 minutes walk from the entrance, we reached the waterfall.
.
Don’t even think of crossing the river here to have fun. Just for you to see only
.
10.28am, we reached the 1st river.
.
Hello, how are you ?
.
10.35am, arriving at the 3rd river.
.
11.20am, we met a group of 8 hikers who were also from Kuala Lumpur at this 4th river and the last river we have to cross. Later, I found out that they are Marathon runners from Pacesetters Club !
.
With this filter, we can enjoy the real, unpolluted and fresh mineral water
.
Although this is a great place to relax but we have to move on.
.
11.53am, for 2 hours 36 minutes, we have only walked for 5.5km ! Another 2km to reach Camp 2, long way to go guys !
.
No play play now, we have to start working harder.
.
12.39pm, we decided to rest and have our lunch.
.
Dried meat + bread are the most delicious lunch in the jungle now !
.
2.45pm, I was already half dead but my friend said this is funny, so I took it loh ……
.
Do you believe ? We have walked for 6 hours but only reach 9.5km. One person started to talk nonsense and wanted to give up for tomorrow’s trail. Tell you later who was this person.
.
Guys, I have lost count how many such as this slope we have ascended.
.
Really need a rest now….. time now is 3.51pm. If I can have a nap, is much more better !
.
Just see the way our friend sit, you can imagine how tough the trail is and how tiring are we.
Who cares now about those leeches !
.
4.41pm at 11.5km….. 500 meter to go !
.
4.52pm, almost 8 hours, finally, we arrived at Camp 3 (1355m). The two in front are the strongest and fittest man and woman ! They arrived much earlier than us.
.
6pm, we are getting ready for our dinner.
.
Salted fish.
.
Bak Kut Teh (Chinese Herbal Soup) without meat is still tasty.
.
Sausage.
.
Salted fish + Sausage + Rice + Chinese Herbal Soup = Wondeful Dinner
.
Guys, eat as much as we can to replenish our energy. We have another challenge tomorrow.
The weather was cool at the height of 1,355 meter and the sky was quick to become dark. Most of us were too tired and by 9pm, we already in our sweet dream. But we did not have a good sleep, we could hear different sounds from time to time, some loud, some slow……. all were created by human, including me
Conclusion, from Mulu Park office to Camp 3 was a really tough trail to walk. You need to have good training before hand, most of us have to carry our backpack with an average weight of 12kg. If you are able to reach Camp 3, it is cosidered to be fit. The fittest are those who can conquer the Mulu Summit ! Can we do that ? Come back here to visit our 2nd day of Summit Mission
